A Decline in Erudition?   [James S. Robbins]

We are at risk, says the New York Times. Note that Word of the Day Archive cites NR and NRO for examples of the use of such words as peccant, ephemeron, Panglossian, commination, cynosure, and my contribution, execrable. I'm sure we would all like to uphold the tradition of WFB's estimable and trenchant use of the language. And yes, the Times may just be engaging in epicaricacy, but that should not compel us to give ourselves over to cacozelia. Surely not.
