The Coming Olympics Fiasco   [John Derbyshire]

Looks like total confusion in San Francisco. Excellent! I think it's wonderful that the Tibetans are getting a little air time. They have been atrociously treated by the ChiComs, and their sufferings have been ignored by the rest of the world. The Maoists trashed their country, murdered untold numbers of them, and now have the nerve to accuse them of "ingratitude"! Shame on the IOC for giving the Games to this clique of gangsters. I was protesting seven years ago about it.

(Though when criticizing the rest of the world, you need to soften that with a mention of India, which took in so many of them, and to whom all the Tibetans I've known were touchingly grateful, and also of Switzerland, which seems to have accepted a lot. At any rate, Tibetan events in Europe always have a big contingent of Swiss-Tibetans. Britain and the U.S.A. — especially the Kennedy administration — both behaved disgracefully towards Tibet.)
