Iraq and the House   [Rich Lowry]

I’m told that a little earlier this morning in a closed-door weekly meeting of House Republicans, John Boehner told fellow Republicans they should stay united in opposition to the Democrats' war spending bill. Boehner said, according to this source, "[This bill contains] $21.5 billion of extra spending put on the backs of our soldiers.  If we want to show the American people we're serious about fiscal responsibility, this is the time to stand up and be counted. Last night MoveOn.org came out and endorsed the Pelosi supplemental.  If there's any Republican who wants to be with MoveOn.org, I think you're on the wrong team."  He then urged members to go to the House floor at 10:30 am to sign a discharge petition with Rep. Sam Johnson (R-TX). It would force Pelosi and Co. to allow a vote on Johnson's bill barring Congress from cutting off funding for the troops.
