“House Members Receive Angry Calls on Vote, Aides Say” [Rich Lowry]
At least according to Bloomberg here:
Voters called U.S. lawmakers today demanding action to revive the economy after the House's defeat of the $700 billion financial-rescue plan triggered a record drop in stocks, House aides said.
The calls reversed an earlier outpouring of voter opposition to the bailout legislation, they said.
``A lot of people called to complain about losing their shirt,'' said Sean Brown, press secretary for Republican Representative Joe Barton of Texas, who opposed the measure.
Calls have gone from overwhelmingly against the bill to about 60-40 or 70-30 in favor of it, Brown said.
Calls to Michigan Republican Pete Hoekstra, who voted against the measure, were running about 90 to 95 percent against the bailout before the vote. ``Today it was trending more towards 50-50,'' spokesman Dave Yonkman said.
