Do You Remember …   [Kathryn Jean Lopez]

When Barack Obama was elected, some argued that we should do away with the January 20th inauguration business and just go ahead and let Obama be president already. It seems like that’s (de facto) happened. I appreciate that the girls are starting school today, but does Obama have to go to the Hill — and evidently deliver a major policy speech — acting as if president? I thought it responsible of him to not talk Mideast policy over the holidays on the principle that there is only one president at a time. But that position may be a thing of the past with his arrival in D.C.

It's not the biggest deal in the world — after all, he will be president before long. But we do still have another man in the Oval Office, and that ought to be respected.
