More On The Coffee-Pot Flag   [Rich Lowry]

E-mail:

Kaplan writes:  "Seated beneath the Awakening's gilded flag, which he designed and which features a sword, scales of justice, and, less explicably, a coffee pot,"

"Less explicably?"  They call themselves the "Awakening."  How to get that across in a symbol on your flag?  Well, the rising sun and roosters have been done.  How bout a coffee pot?  Only a highly educated person could let that get lost in the translation.

UPDATE

E-mail:

Hello,

I'm sure a more informed emailer will more convincingly make this point, but if I'm not mistaken in Arab culture coffee (gahwa) is ritually offered to guests as a sign of welcome and hospitality....
