Two Quick Questions   [Ramesh Ponnuru]

Colleagues, readers: Help me out if you could. I just read Nick Gillespie's NYT review of Matt Bai's book on the Democrats. Two things in it surprised me, and I'm looking for some information.

1) Gillespie writes: "According to a July 27-30 poll conducted for NBC News and The Wall Street Journal, the general public thinks Democrats will do a much better job than Republicans not just on global warming, health care and education but also on traditional Republican bailiwicks like controlling federal spending, dealing with taxes and protecting America’s interest in trade" (emphasis added). Does anyone have trend data on which party Americans have trusted on trade? I didn't realize it had been a Republican advantage.

2) Gillespie writes that the Republicans' "would-be presidential candidates have mostly publicly rejected evolution." I thought that only three of them had done so: Huckabee, Tancredo, and Brownback. Who else has?
