Thanksgiving Football   [John J. Miller]

For me, Thanksgiving means Detroit Lions football. I know, I know: It's more of a curse than a blessing. The Lions haven't actually won on Thanksgiving in five years, and this season they're still searching for their first victory. Tomorrow, they play the Tennessee Titans, owners of a 10-1 record. But I'll be watching anyway. I can't help myself. Go Lions.

Today's Between the Covers podcast is with ESPN correspondent Sal Paolantonio, author of How Football Explains America. We talk about why football is so popular, the connection between football and U.S. military culture, and the time Ronald Reagan met John Lennon on Monday Night Football.

Happy Thanksgiving!

UPDATE: The Lions need a federal bailout!
