Live from Hillaryland [Stephen Spruiell]
Here in Columbus, Ohio, Hillary Clinton will meet her public tonight after what looks to be a successful day in Ohio. The campaign is broadcasting CNN on a giant projector screen for the crowd of several hundred, which just cheered after seeing a graphic that showed Clinton with a large lead (so far) over Obama in Ohio. The next headline CNN displayed was "Citizens of Brattleboro, Vermont pass resolution to arrest Bush, Cheney." The crowd went really wild at that.
A minute ago former DNC chair and professional Clinton-friend Terry McAuliffe indicated to reporters that Clinton intends to stay in the race until all the states (and Puerto Rico) have voted. A reporter repeatedly pressed him on the point that Hillary cannot mathematically win enough delegates to secure the nomination even if she does stay in that long, to which McAuliffe replied, "Let them vote! What do you have against those states?" He was joking, I think. On a more serious note, he stressed that Barack Obama cannot win enough pledged delegates to secure the nomination either. Both candidates will have to vie for superdelegate votes, although for Clinton to win the nomination, she will likely need a come-from-behind win at the convention, with superdelegates overruling what could be a lead in pledged delegates for Obama.
