LAT Poll—Obama Up by 2   [Rich Lowry]

The LA Times poll generally hasn't been kind to McCain, but now he trails only by 2, with Obama's favorable rating down from 59% to 48%:

Barack Obama's public image has eroded this summer amid a daily onslaught of attacks from Republican rival John McCain, leaving the race for the White House statistically tied, according to a Los Angeles Times/Bloomberg poll released today.

There's also this: "Still, the poll found that McCain faces serious obstacles. Voters favor Obama on the economy, the issue they rank as most important." Sort of makes you think that McCain could use a big middle-class tax cut to make up ground on that issue, no?
