That Texas House Race   [Jonathan Martin]

More from The Hotline (and two very wise men in Rich Cohen and Charlie Mahtesian) on the Republicans' final, insult-to-injury loss down in Texas.

The report that the DCCC had to bail out ex-Rep. Ciro Rodriguez (D) is not terribly surprising.   Recall that Rodriguez mounted a primary challenge back in March against Rep. Henry Cuellar (D) in another South Texas district.  Despite having the support of many liberal bloggers, and some of his former House colleagues, Rodriguez took a 12% hit.

That such a weak candidate would oust a seven-term veteran with ease (even in a redrawn, less GOP-friendly district) is a fitting end to the Republicans' dismal year.

There is, however, one bright spot in yesterday's results, at least for true-blue conservatives.   Rep. Henry Bonilla's  (R) loss marks the seventh defeat or retirement this cycle of a Republican appropriator — eight if you include the Duke-stir.
