Does Anyone Believe McCain's Change of Heart?   [Mark Krikorian]

McCain claims to have heard the voice of the people, and now ostensibly supports enforcing the border before implementing an amnesty (though I haven't heard him support any other prerequisites, like a functioning, universal work-verification system, 100% deportation of criminals upon completion of their sentences, withholding federal funds from cities defying federal immigration law, etc). Well, not only do immigration hawks not believe his transparently insincere claims to support enforcement, but his allies don't believe him either; Rod relates a recent meeting at the Dallas paper:

today I sat in an editorial board meeting with two pro-immigration advocates running a sophisticated campaign to overcome opposition to illegal immigration. One, a Republican, said, "We all know how Romney and Giuliani really feel about immigration, and we know that after the election, they'll do the right thing."

Update: Oops — I shouldn't try to blog and participate in a conference call at the same time. The sentence I quoted above obviously is not about McCain. Sorry.
