Thompson   [Ramesh Ponnuru]

A couple of readers have gotten the impression that I'm trying to attack the former senator by pointing out his pro-choice past. One even accused me of doing Sen. McCain's bidding. As I've said before, I'd probably support Thompson if he got in the race. But I think a candidate Thompson would hurt himself if he tried to maintain that he was always pro-life. (Speaking of which, this comment sheds some light on how the National Right to Life Committee viewed Thompson in 1994, as opposed to how some of its top aides remember him now.)

And contrary to the National Journal's comment, I'm not "fighting" with James Antle about the subject: As near as I can tell, Antle and I see eye to eye on this question.
