Gary, R.I.P.   [Jonah Goldberg]

Alas, Gary the Snail — our snail, not the one from Spongebob Squarepants — passed away this weekend at an unknown age. We were all surprisingly fond of Gary and greatly amused by his antics. We were particularly intrigued to note that his movements were quite spritely, given his species' reputation. Gary never caused trouble, never talked back, helped keep his tank a cleaner, better place, and made everyone smile. He will be missed. He is survived by perhaps thousands, but we will be pragmatic about notifying next of kin. If any of you reading this, in the Mid Atlantic states especially, have snails of your own, please notify them as circumstances warrant.

A private funeral was conducted Sunday in our backyard.
