AUH20...And The Bush Doctrine   [Jonah Goldberg]

I was reading through old copies of the New York Times and found this from September 29, 1963. Emphasis mine:

To those who "fear that the conservatives would destroy foreign aid," Goldwater said: Conservatives believe...in the innate generosity of the American people which has surpassed that of any other in history...We believe in our power to stimulate true capitalistic growth in emergent nations...We do not believe in giving money to dictators, monarchs and Socialist states who oppress and exploit there people, yet this is what we have done and continue to do as a nation...Conservatives acknowledge the fundamental mission established by the American Revolution...to free all men everywhere so that they may seek their own happiness, their well-being and their self self-respect in a free, lawful society.

Just something to ponder.
