Evolution and the GOP [Ramesh Ponnuru]
I expressed puzzlement about the claim, in the New York Times the other day, that Republican presidential candidates "have mostly publicly rejected evolution." I had thought that only Huckabee, Brownback, and Tancredo had done that. In response to my post, one reader sent me a link to this page by Duncan Hunter. But I don't think Hunter's comments amount to a rejection of evolution; he is just arguing for theism and declaring it compatible with evolution.
A friend writes in that Romney has said that he believes that God "used the process of evolution to create the human body," and that McCain has said that students should be exposed to intelligent design as one "point of view." I don't think either of those stands amount to a rejection of evolution, either.
