The Truth About Petraeus!   [Cliff May]

Have you ever heard of IPS? If not, good for you. It’s a very lefty “news” service and, I should disclose, one that has had the privilege of attacking me on occasion.

A “news story” yesterday seems clearly intended to bolster the MoveOn.org allegation that Gen. David Petraeus is a traitor – by showing that’s it’s not just the far left and the apologists for Islamism who disdain this battlefield commander. His superior officers dislike him too!

Here’s the lead (emphasis added):

WASHINGTON, Sep 12 (IPS) - In sharp contrast to the lionisation of Gen. David Petraeus by members of the U.S. Congress during his testimony this week, Petraeus's superior, Admiral William Fallon, chief of the Central Command (CENTCOM), derided Petraeus as a sycophant during their first meeting in Baghdad last March, according to Pentagon sources familiar with reports of the meeting.

Fallon told Petraeus that he considered him to be "an ass-kissing little chickenshit" and added, "I hate people like that", the sources say. That remark reportedly came after Petraeus began the meeting by making remarks that Fallon interpreted as trying to ingratiate himself with a superior.

Hey, I’m sure this must be true. No doubt IPS reporters have great military sources.

Now here’s the kicker: I didn’t come across this story because I’m a regular reader of the IPS. It was sent out to a listserve I’m on by a former U.S. ambassador who was one of the advisors to the Iraq Study Group, the vaunted Baker/Hamilton Committee.

I'm hoping he'll next send us the National Enquirer story about Petraeus being the father of Brittany Spears' baby. And the kid's an alien, too!
