re: Politics and Entertainment   [David Freddoso]

Dear Mr. Freddoso,

You seem to think political discourse is a form of entertainment. Perhaps not being used to content, you would find Thompson dull. 

I got a couple of similar notes. Here's the problem: It's not about whether political speeches should entertain us. It's about whether anyone is going to turn out in the snow in Iowa this winter for a candidate who bores them to death.

There are high expectations for Thompson. He is starting late, and he has to inspire people if he wants the nomination. Simple as that. If he's going to run around the country giving speeches that put people to sleep, then he might as well go back to Law & Order.
