If it doesn't bleed, it still leads [Mark Steyn]
You remember the famous pictures of Yasser Arafat giving blood for the victims of 9/11? It was a hasty photo op arranged after CNN et al, in an accidental outbreak of moral clarity, broadcast all that footage of folks in Ramallah jumping up and down in the street celebrating the attacks while crazy old biddies passed around the candy.
In The Weekly Standard, Scott Johnson reports on the event's apparent exposure as a hoax. In the words of Charles Enderlin:
Arafat didn't like needles, and so the doctor put a needle near his arm and agitated a bag of blood. The reporters took the requisite photographs.
"The reporters" included Reuters, the Associated Press, and the BBC. I wonder if they'd care to comment.
