Fitzgerald Bugged "Thousands" of Phone Calls in Recent Blago Probe   [Byron York]

Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald has asked a court to give him a 90-day extension of the time allowed to secure an indictment against Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich.  In a new filing, Fitzgerald reveals that he intercepted "thousands" of phone calls between late October and early December.  He also says that "multiple witnesses have come forward in recent weeks to discuss their knowledge of criminal activity in relation to the ongoing investigation," and that there are "multiple defendants and potential defendants."  Fitzgerald adds there are other reasons for his request, but says they must remain sealed.  Also says that the overall Blago investigation began in "approximately 2003."  If the court agrees, Fitzgerald will have until April 7 to indict.
