ABC News: 'GOV. SARAH PALIN WARNS WAR MAY BE NECESSARY IF RUSSIA INVADES ANOTHER COUNTRY.' [Mark Hemingway]
Sounds dramatic right? Um, not really. Here's the transcript:
When asked by Gibson if under the NATO treaty, the U.S. would have to go to war if Russia again invaded Georgia, Palin responded: "Perhaps so. I mean, that is the agreement when you are a NATO ally, is if another country is attacked, you're going to be expected to be called upon and help.
"And we've got to keep an eye on Russia. For Russia to have exerted such pressure in terms of invading a smaller democratic country, unprovoked, is unacceptable," she told ABC News' Charles Gibson.
Parts of the Palin interview are supposed to be on Nightline tonight and ABC will be running a primetime special tomorrow night with the bulk of it.
UPDATE: Sanity prevails in the media for once. Tease now reads, "Sarah Palin Defends Experience, Takes Hard Line Approach on National Security"
Did you catch this final sentence from the ABC News report you linked at The Corner at NRO:
“Palin has also recently come under fire for dismissing a librarian while she was mayor of Wasilla in 1996. The librarian lost her jobs (sic) after telling Palin she would not remove books if the mayor deemed them offensive.”
In fact, the Librarian was never fired by Palin and retired years later.
UPDATE II:
Jennifer Rubin notes that even the NYT thought ABC was needlessly alarmist.
