Israel   [Jonah Goldberg]

Readers keep asking why I haven't commented yet on developments in Israel. I guess part of the answer is I don't what to say (another is that I've been busy). I don't really see a path out of this in the near term. I think Israel has been faced with some awful choices and has been responding as best it can. The only place where I second-guess them is in their attacks on Lebanon proper. I understand the need to hold the Lebanese government responsible (would we hold Mexico responsible if one of their leading "political parties" launched military raids into the US?), but I have such high hopes for Lebanon and I would hate Israel's actions to cause the Cedar Revolution to become synonymous with, say, the Prague Spring. It's not clear to me that attacking the airport will put the sort of pressure on Hezbollah that the Israelis intend. But, who knows?

Update: Pajamas Media has a good tick-tock  and Austin Bay has a theory (both via Instapundit (who has a podcast interview with McCain up, btw)).
