The Giuliani Effect [Ramesh Ponnuru]
David Kirkpatrick had an interesting article on the decreasingly conservative politics of evangelicals in yesterday's Times Magazine. (I'm thinking of writing something on that topic myself.) David Frum comments on one line from the story: "If Giuliani captures the nomination despite the threat of an evangelical revolt, it will be a long time before Republican strategists pay attention to the demands of conservative Christian leaders again." He points out that Giuliani might still have reason to pay attention to those leaders. I'd add another point: If Giuliani wins the nomination with a minority of the primary vote, and goes on to lose the general election in part because conservative Christians don't turn out for him, Republican strategists will pay attention to that.
