Fair is Fair   [John Podhoretz]

These debates are very substantive and very good. There's something to be said, it turns out, for the early start to the campaign season. It's too early for these guys to go at each other in an ugly fashion, and so they really are staking out positions and finding their comfort level discussing the most difficult issues facing the country. And the high level of argumentation really does put the Democratic field in the shade. That's necessary, because of the structural and strategic advantage the Democrats possess going into 2008. Whoever faces the Democratic nominee is going to have to be at the very, very tippy-top of his game.
