Callous Conservatives Want Africans to Die!   [Kathryn Jean Lopez]

I saw the Michael Gerson column this morning and decided I must have been having dreams about parody Gerson columns. But, no, it really is there on the Washington Post's website. I daresay Fred Thompson, for all his faults as a candidate, is a morally serious guy, contrary to Gerson's suggestion otherwise. I believe he was pushing back against the general "what can government do for...?" attitude we have in America. That's a good conservative reflex, and not a callous one, given what we know about the efficiency of government. But for Gerson, I suppose, callous and conservative will always be synonymous.

Thompson had more to say about Africa and things here.
