"A liberal we can't trust" [Rich Lowry]
It would have to be a dressier phrase, but it seems to me that's how the McCain campaign should go after Obama. If it can't win running against him merely as a flip-flopper, it has to be an element of the case against him—that he can't be trusted as both a naked opportunist who will say anything to win and as a vacillator not ready for the responsibilities of the office. But all this has to be on top of a substantive case against Obama. Dick Morris makes a persuasive argument that McCain should go after Obama's distortion of his own record on welfare in his second ad—flagged here by Yuval—as a way to hit Obama on both his credibility and leftism.
