Romney's Shame   [Andrew Stuttaford]

The hunting business was bad, but this, this...
When asked his favorite novel in an interview shown yesterday on the Fox News Channel, Mitt Romney pointed to “Battlefield Earth,” a novel by L. Ron Hubbard, the founder of Scientology...“I’m not in favor of his religion by any means...But he wrote a book called ‘Battlefield Earth’ that was a very fun science-fiction book.
"Fun"? Good Lord, I tried reading that book and "fun" was not the word.
The Governor's favorite book is, he says, the Bible. That's fine, of course, all very worthy, but I'll admit there's part of me that wishes he hadn't chosen something quite so, you know, uplifting. My endorsement therefore goes to the candidate prepared to nominate a book by Stephen King.

Given the GOP's prospects for 2008, something apocalyptic, The Stand perhaps, might be appropriate.
