Re: Good Grief [Andy McCarthy]
Andrew is right, of course. I have to say, though, that my head hurts from running into this brick wall one too many times already. The bottom line is this: If the Department of Justice continues to fail in its national security obligation to enforce the laws against leaking classified information — by subpoenaing reporters who publish this stuff, jailing them for contempt if they refuse to provide the names of their Intelligence Community sources, and ultimately prosecuting the disgraceful government officials who violate their oaths by disseminating the secrets with which they have been entrusted — then this will continue to happen. We already know that there are cadres within the IC and its alumni who despise this administration and have strategically leaked to undermine it for six years running. If they get to do that with impunity, then they will continue to do it. This ain't rocket science.
It is remarkable to me that the obsession about AG Gonzales is over fired U.S. attorneys, a trifle compared to this default: numerous national security leaks, no reporters subpoenaed, and no prosecutions.
