Steeling Ourselves   [Kate O'Beirne]

Maryland seems called for Cardin - just what the Senate needs, another undistinguished career politician. According to exit polls, Steele carried 25 of the black vote, higher among black men than black women (34-23). Only about a third of the electorate was Republican and 45 percent of voters "strongly disapproved" of Bush - Cardin carried 90 percent of them. Steele carried a large majority of the 44 percent of voters who think illegal immigration is extremely or very important.
