The Romney-McCain Iraq Kerfuffle [Ramesh Ponnuru]
I think that Paul Mirengoff has the right take on this dispute. I suspect that what's behind McCain's charge is not just the chance to score political points—although of course that is the main motive—but a real resentment on McCain's part that Romney was trying to maintain his viability if the surge failed. That is true—and also, in my view, not dishonorable. But McCain thinks it was dishonorable, and so I doubt he will care very much if the specifics of his charge aren't true.
