My Secret Plan for Rudy to Win the Nomination [Rich Lowry]
Rudy fans like to posit an unconventional path to the nomination for him: lose Iowa, lose New Hampshire, lose Michigan, lose South Carolina, WIN FLORIDA AND SWEEP TO THE NOMINATION! This is possible depending on the margins of the losses and to whom he is losing and when. But Rudy is likely to lose lots of momentum prior to Florida if he doesn't win anywhere beforehand. A much more plausible path to the nomination for Rudy is to win New Hampshire. The new LAT/Bloomberg poll has him only 5 points behind Romney and Giuliani hasn't started advertising yet and it's Romney's home-turf. The new Iowa poll has him tied for second there. So despite all the talk of a revolution in the primary process, it seems to me it makes sense for Rudy to try to win this thing the old-fashioned way—a strong finish in Iowa, a win in New Hampshire and off the races from there.
