A Semi-Defense of the Newshour [Kathryn Jean Lopez]
David Frum (understandably/justifiably) criticizes the 1/2 Hour News Hour again today. I didn't see Sunday's show but based on their first and what I know about it I offer this: I think the show might be a riot if they didn't have a huge handicap — they taped these episodes we're watching now last year. If Fox really wants to try this out (and I confess I actually think the 1/2 Hour News Hour on 24/American Idol Fox would make more sense), they ought to free the writers and "anchors" to do fresh stuff, instead of canned ACLU jokes. Then can't be competitive with stuff (like the Daily Show) that appears the day it airs taping ahead of time.
