Chavez [Jonah Goldberg]
I guess I'm off the reservation here, but I really kind of liked his speech. I like that kind of moral clarity. You know where you stand with someone who says your country is evil and your president is the devil and that you and your kind must fought at every turn. I like it for its nostalgic qualities too. It's old school, old world, old times stuff. Perhaps it's because I recently heard Christopher Hitchens do his Leninist the worse the better riff about the global conflict, but I also like how it helps clear the field. I think it was Goethe who said something like Act boldly and great men will come to your aid. Well, it also follows that if you act boldly other men will come to the aid of your enemies. I wish everyone would choose sides so forthrightly and unambiguously. I know where America stands with Hugo Chavez. Do you know where we stand with Jacques Chirac?
Woops: A reader corects:
Close Jonah but no cigar. "Act boldly and powerful forces will come to your assistance."
