Voodoo Atheism & Halloween   [Jonah Goldberg]

The subject has generated an enormous amount of email, too much to respond to, never mind post. But here's an email which, while not entirely on point, I found pretty interesting:

Good Afternoon Jonah,

The favorite example of voodoo religion is the treatment of Halloween.  For years the “bible-thumpers” have tried to silence Halloween celebrations in schools on the grounds that they were Satanic rituals.  They were laughed off as a kook fringe, and rightly so.  Now the successful removal of Halloween is accomplished by those who believe themselves to be witches!  This happened last year in Tacoma.  I suppose the same strand on a different scale could be seen in Seattle.  The Seattle public swimming pools have been offering “Muslim Swim” where they paper over all the windows and only allow women into the pool.  If this were a Christian group trying to have tax dollars pay for their exclusive swim, the moonbats denouncing such a government establishment of religion would be thick enough to block out the sun.  I realize that this is pretty far off the topic of Atheistic Voodoo like the new age energy centering or rabid environmentalism, but the left’s (and court’s) acceptance of minority or foreign religions is similar to that of Atheistic pseudo spirituality.
