Catholic University Owes Rick Santorum an Apology   [Kathryn Jean Lopez]

I've only caught the tail end of Bob Casey at my alma mater (via webcast), talking about clean air in the common wealth of Pennsylvania and other obligations we all have to be good stewards of the "common good." A) I don't know how you can invite a politician to speak during a campaign and not consider it an event in the life of that campaign B) this is a political speech, what I'm hearing of it. (Hell, most people listening to him right now wouldn't know him from a whole in the wall. )

Now he's talking about the war on terorr, by the way. With no great insight. But, hitting all the issues a campaign speech might — the war, abortion, envirnonment, global AIDs ....

This speech brings up issues for Catholic University — in terms of it's identity and politcial neutrality. On a pure political observational level, it's a damn rotten think to do to one of the greatest voices who defend innocent human life in Washington.
