The Times Effect [Kathryn Jean Lopez]
Another e-mail (again, I'm still getting many along these lines):
First time writer/Long time reader. Is that appropriate in an Email? Anyway the Hit Piece by the NY Times prompted me to scurry over to McCain's website, buy a few window stickers and donate $200.00. I'm a conservative republican, and McCain is the nominee. I'll support, fund, and vote for him in '08. Is he perfect? Of course not. Are there issues where I differ with him? A few but not enough to stop me and my wife from embracing him.
In my home the overwhelming issue is the War. Win it; win it with an emphasis unknown to our current enemies. Win it on the ground by killing as many jihadist's as possible, win it politically here and in Iraq by helping those Iraqi's who choose liberty a chance at it. The Vietnam experience showed our nation how the military can win on the ground, in the air and on the sea, but it is incapable of winning the political battle needed for a convincing and defining victory. McCain's Vietnam experience, in my opinion, offers our nation the perfect vessel to finish what Dubya started and cap what by all accounts is now a stunningly successful military operation in Iraq with a defeat of the America haters and the cut-and-run crowd here and abroad.
But the paper that endorsed McCain has not done all the Right repair work. "I've seen McCain madder at conservatives than he is at the New York Times," Laura Ingraham just said on her show, reacting to the senator's morning press conference.
