The Arizona Republic Responds   [Mark R. Levin]

It seems my McCain piece here got the attention of the McCain cheerleaders at the Arizona Republic. Too bad for its readers that it chose to ignore the substance of each of McCain's domestic policy shortcomings rather than dismiss the concerns as my complaining about his liberal co-sponsors.  But this is what the McCain cheerleaders in the media are reduced to.

The Arizona Republic wants conservatives to know that McCain has been for free trade.  That's good.  But his attack on one industry after another, which the Republic does not mention, is harmful to all trade — especially his McCain-Lieberman bill.  His opposition to the Bush tax cuts was harmful as well.  McCain's opposition to earmarks is well-known, and I mentioned it.  His support for the surge in Iraq is well-known.  I mentioned that as well, but said that I am skeptical that he pressured the president and General David Petreaus to do it, and asked for the evidence.  The Republic mentions McCain's position on abortion.  In addition to what Rick Santorum said about this subject (audio below), neither the Republic nor McCain squares his abortion position with his support for federally-financed embryonic stem cell research.  McCain's position on health care, which would rob "Big Pharm" of the value of their patents and promote the importation of drugs from Canada and elsewhere, would have little effect on health care costs and create dislocations in the market (clearly, the Republic folks didn't read the link I provided with my article).  And I haven't even dealt with amnesty for illegal aliens - the legal, economic, and moral bankruptcy of the McCain-Kennedy position.

The Republic, which has become a reliable liberal newspaper, advocates for McCain in the Republican primary not because he is a conservative, but because he is not.
