Naming Names   [Jay Nordlinger]

At the end of Impromptus today, I mention a Great Name in Sports: that of Miss Airial Salvo, who is a volleyball player at the University of Washington, and apparently a dynamo on the court. I suggest that her opponents duck. A reader writes,

I wanted to call your attention to another Great Name in Sports, not as great as Airial Salvo, but great nonetheless: My beloved alma mater, Wake Forest, has a redshirt sophomore linebacker from Naples, Fla., named Gelo Orange. “Gelo” is pronounced like the brand name of that wonderful dessert we all love so much, although I personally prefer cherry or strawberry over orange.

Just a little cultural lightness, amid rampant socialism and jihad.
