A Representative Conservative E-mail This Morning   [Kathryn Jean Lopez]

Subject: Shouldn't McCain Wait to Be Elected Before Throwing Convervatives Under the Bus?

McCain is calling around wanting to know what the conservative grassroots will do?

God willing he isn't talking to the same people who said that conservatives would get behind Harriet Miers.

It has taken me over 8 years to warm up to John McCain, but I'm still only lukewarm.  A pro-abortion VP would be the last straw for me.

Think about it, If McCain is willing to choose a pro-choicer for VP when he needs conservatives, what kind of SCOTUS nominee are we likely to get once he doesn't need us.

Here's the bottom line for me: I strongly prefer John McCain on every issue, but not at the cost of ending the pro-life litmus test for GOP nominees to the WH and SCOTUS.  (It ain't much, but it's all we've got.)
