Gingrich vs. Buckley   [Ramesh Ponnuru]

Doesn't Gingrich's argument for backing the Republican in NY-23 — that the local party's decision must be respected — mean that conservatives were wrong to back Jim Buckley in 1970? He wasn't the state party's choice. Good thing Richard Nixon wasn't as much of a party loyalist as Gingrich.
