The GOP Race: Huge Changes In Iowa   [Byron York]

The new poll from the Des Moines Register shows some dramatic changes in the Republican race in Iowa.  The headline is that Mike Huckabee, who was 17 points behind Mitt Romney in the paper's October poll, now leads Romney by five points.  The second headline is that Fred Thompson, who was in second place (behind Romney) in October, is now in fourth place, with half the level of support he had last month.  The third headline is that Ron Paul has moved up to a level just behind Thompson and equal with John McCain.  Here are the new poll numbers:

Huckabee        29
Romney          24
Giuliani           13
Thompson        9
McCain            7
Paul                7
Tancredo         6
Here are the numbers from the Register's October poll:
Romney            29
Thompson         18
Huckabee          12
Giuliani              11
McCain               7
Tancredo             5
Paul                    4
By the way, Marc Ambinder reported yesterday that Huckabee has spent a total of $327,000 in Iowa.  Romney has spent $7 million.
