'Words, Just Words.' [David Freddoso]
Is Barack Obama a plagiarist? Consider: Barack. H. Obama, 2007: "I stand before you today to announce my candidacy for President of the United States."
Robert F. Kennedy, 1968: "I am today announcing my candidacy for the presidency of the United States."
George McGovern, 1972: "Today I announce my candidacy for the presidency of the United States."
Walter Mondale, 1984: "Today I declare my candidacy for President of the United States.
George H.W. Bush, 1988: "I am here today to announce my candidacy for the Presidency of the United States.
Okay, just kidding. But even if it is pathetic for Obama to "borrow" Deval Patrick's empty speeches, Republicans should be cautious about relying too much on his lack of substance to win this year's election. Voters are often willing to overlook a lack of substance, as Patrick and many others have demonstrated by winning their elections. And eventually, Obama will indeed offer more than platitudes — even if platitudes remain his strong suit.
Obama's bigger weaknesses are his inexperience and his propensity to say meaningful but stupid and dangerous things — not his failure to say anything meaningful.
