The New York Times Spells Potatoe [John Podhoretz]
The New York Times's Andrew Newman closes a little piece covering Dan Quayle's Friday Wall Street Journal review of a golfing book by John Feinstein as follows:
So when his book comes out in paperback, will there be a blurb on the back from Mr. Quayle’s review?
“Even thought there are quotable lines, I would probably urge my editors to stay away from that,” Mr. Feinstein said. “It’s Dan Quayle.”
Even thought?
Maybe if you're going to use a Dan-Quayle-Is-Stupid joke as your kicker, you shouldn't make a mistake like that — especially since it went through a writer, an editor, and at least two copy editors before going in the paper.
