Nothing Special About Today   [Kathryn Jean Lopez]

Like, Memorial Day, Easter appears to be a holiday Google doesn't do — although it managed to celebrate St. Patrick's Day and the first day of spring (even if they skipped Jonah and my birthdays!) this past week.

UPDATE: A reader's defense:

Don't you think it would be more than a little inappropriate for Google to do a cutesy little graphic about Christ dying on the cross and then being resurrected? The holidays they mark are those that are Hallmark-friendly (Christmas, Valentine's, 4th of July), or have a lot of geek appeal (Alexander Graham Bell's birthday, the creation of TCP/IP). While a graphic about President's Day or Thanksgiving is likely to offend absolutely no one, the same cannot be said about a corporation using serious days like Memorial Day and Yom Hashoah in its branding. Google doesn't do Yom Kippur or Eid al-Adha either. I as a Christian would be offended to see the same use made of Easter as corporations regularly do with Christmas.

Frankly, a bunny would have worked for me. Anything different.

UPDATE: A reader suggestion:

Even better than a bunny... just make one of the O's into a colored egg.
Simple, non-religious, and yet it would satisfy even this Christian that
Google wasn't singling out Easter for non-recognition.
