Why The GOP Will Lose (badly) in 08 [Andrew Stuttaford]
Yes, the President is one reason, but another is the state of the GOP in the Senate and the House. Simply looking at the low approval ratings of Congress and thinking that this will hit the Democrats in 08 is wishful thinking, or at least it will be so long as Republicans are seen as part of the problem rather than part of the solution.
And why is the GOP seen as part of the problem?
Well, people like Don "Bridge to Electoral Oblivion" Young, that's why. The Politico has just the latest example of what this disgrace to the Republican Party has been up to:
Rep. Don Young attacked his fellow Republicans on the House floor Wednesday, as he defended education funds allocated to his home-state of Alaska. "You want my money, my money," Young stridently declared before warning conservatives that, "Those who bite me will be bitten back." Young took extreme exception to an amendment by Rep. Scott Garrett (R-N.J.) to strike money in a spending bill for native Alaskan and Hawaiian educational programs.
It is not your money, Congressman. It's ours.
That a prominent Republican does not understand that rather basic point underscores the problem that the party faces.
