Proving a Negative   [Mark Hemingway]

From the front page of today's WaPo:

Obama Sets Expansive Goal for Jobs
Plan Aims to Create or Save 2.5 Million Positions by 2011

President-elect Barack Obama is developing a plan to create or preserve 2.5 million jobs over the next two years by spending billions of dollars to rebuild roads and bridges, modernize public schools, and construct wind farms and other alternative sources of energy.

Got to love that "or save" and "or preserve" bit. So a year from now when unemployment hits double digits, it will undoubtedly be comforting when President Obama tells us, "Well, sure the job situation is bad but it would have been so much worse if I hadn't spent three trillion in taxpayer dollars on windfarms."
