Jim Geraghty's Fred Update   [Kathryn Jean Lopez]

The latest round-up here

One Council on National Policy meeting attendee who thought Thompson was good but not "thrilling" tells me:

He focused on how our guiding principles must come from the Declaration and the Constitution and that we need to pick judges who actually believe in the Constitution. ... it was kind of cerebral. He told his usual "After living in Washington, I yearned for the realism and sincerity of Hollywood" joke, talked about his dad, who was a used-car dealer (I wouldn't advertise that part), and had a good line (there were several "my daddy used to say"-s), "A man who's smiling all the time cain't (yes, he said "cain't") know what's going on." His accent was thicker, maybe because he was tired or relaxed or something, and he seems to have lost weight (a sign he intends to run?).
