Clinton News Network Indeed   [Mark Hemingway]

So last night during the debate I bluntly summed up my feelings about the question Hillary was asked at the end regarding her preference for diamonds or pearls by noting that a world where that question is considered okay for a Presidential debate makes me want to choose between hemlock or strychnine.

Well, as it turns out — the UNLV student who asked the question wrote on her Myspace page this morning that CNN forced her to ask that question instead of a pre-approved question about the the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste site. (Though that query may be marginally better, I'm pretty sure it would have made Jonah hate the world as well.)

CNN's spokesman claims that she wasn't forced to ask the question but rather it was one of the pre-approved questions that she had submitted and they asked her if she wanted to close the debate with that specific question and she agreed.

Either way, that's the question CNN chose to ask and end the debate on. Which is still embarassing and shameful.
