Stan Greenberg and James Carville's latest memo includes this advice on page 8: "Gay marriage. We hate this issue but we promise you that the Republicans will run hard on this issue, as it is critical for their dislodged voters and those in rural areas. That the Democrat believes marriage is between a man and a woman is among the strongest reassurance for older blue collar voters, seniors and those in rural areas. If this is what a candidate believes, it is important to say it."
