Failures Everywhere   [Jonah Goldberg]

A friend writes:

Jonah,

In your column today you quote the Post as saying that Hasan’s bizarre, violent Islamist PowerPoint presentation was supposed to be “a presentation on a medical topic of his choosing as a culminating exercise of the residency program.”

Maybe it’s just me, but in addition to everything else that might be said about it, I wonder, if this was a kind of test for finishing his program and moving on into the practice of medicine (of psychiatry, no less), why he didn’t, um, you know . . . FAIL the test and wash out of the practice of psychiatry??!!

Not only did military personnel fail to report a manifestly dangerous person in their midst, these medical personnel failed to stop his psychiatric career in its tracks, on the quite obvious grounds that he couldn’t even fulfill a basic requirement of his education without going wacko.  That’s PC doing its worst to the practice of medicine and to medical education.
